Hello, My name is Ellison Lor. I was born in Stockton, CA. I currently live in Newton, NC and I am Hmong-American. I am bilingual in English and Hmong.

Hmong people are from Southeast Asia. Hmong people do not have a country of their own. My specific subgroup is from the mountains of Laos. My parents were children when the Vietnam War broke out. My father’s parents had him late in life, so they passed before he was 8 years old. My father became a soldier at 13 years of age. He fought alongside the American CIA and led many people to Thailand for safety. My mother was orphaned at a young age because her father stepped on an explosive mine while farming and her mother passed as a result of not having access to modern medicine.

My parents came to America as refugees from the Vietnam War with just the clothes on their backs. I grew up in poverty where gang violence was all around and college was unheard of. At the age of 13, my parents moved my 8 siblings and myself to North Carolina for a better future. Soon after my mother fell ill and passed. My father did not have sufficient life insurance for my mother. But, luckily, my father added my mother as a rider on his work life policy so we barely had enough to bury her.

At 14 years of age, I was the oldest son so I had to step up as a man. I helped my father with the bills, and financially supported my siblings. I went through Hickory High School and Lenoir Rhyne College working 2 jobs. I graduated with 2 degrees in Business Management and Finance.

I have been in insurance for over 14 years. 11 of those years have been with State Farm. I never consider myself a salesman, but as someone who is protecting families from ever experiencing the same tragedies I had to endure.

I have a wonderful supportive wife, name Judy who works in the office with me. We've been married for 13 years. We have 2 beautiful daughters and a son. Temperance, 8, is in 3rd grade and August, 10, is in 5th grade. My son is only 7 months old.

I enjoy fishing and hunting. I am extremely passionate about football and volunteer to play the drums for the worship band at church.

My office is in the Statesville area. We are approaching our 6th year in January 2024. We can service people throughout North Carolina and South Carolina. I have the mobility to come meet people where ever they are. I have an amazing team. We are multilingual in English, Hmong and Spanish. We are different from other offices. We spend more than 15 minutes with a person in order to make certain that we properly put the right plan in place.

Hi, my name is Judy Yang. I was born in Fresno, CA. I am Hmong American. I am bilingual in English and Hmong. I currently reside in Catawba County.

I moved to Hickory, NC in 2011 and graduated from St. Stephens High School. I received the NC Teaching Fellows Scholarship in 2006 and I went on to college. I graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in Art Education. I taught all throughout North Carolina for about 9 years. There was a great need for bilingual associates at Ellison Lor State Farm so I joined the team to assist with the demands. Even though I miss my students, it has been a great joy to teach adults about insurance and managing risk from everyday life.

My husband, Ellison, and I have two beautiful daughters and one baby boy. August is 10 years old and excited about 5th grade. Tempy is 8 years old and entering 3rd grade. Ellison Jr will be turning 7 months soon. He is very active and curious about everything. We also have a pet dog name Buster. He’s a Yorkie and just turned 3.

I love spending time with my family. Almost every moment outside of work is dedicated to family festivities or events. I have 8 siblings and so does my husband, so I go to more birthday parties and showers than anyone can ever imagine. An ideal evening for me is being home and watching a movie with Ellison and our kids. If I ever get my own time, I love doing art. Whether that be painting on a canvas or doing someone’s hair and makeup, I enjoy creating beautiful things. If you come by the office, you’ll see a couple of my works in Ellison’s office such as the red truck on his wall.

I am licensed in Auto, Home, Life & Health for North and South Carolina. I’m very detailed oriented. I thoroughly explain coverages and options to people so they can make the correct decision for themselves. It’s not uncommon for my life quotes to be colored coordinated for people. Hello, my name is Kalu Xiong. I was born and raised in Northern California. I currently reside in Catawba County. I am bilingual in English and Hmong.

I graduated from River Valley High School in 2008. In 2017 I graduated from Catawba Valley Community College with an Associate Applied Science in Office Administration. In the past, I’ve held temporary customer-service positions, but after having kids I decided it was time to have a long-term career. When the job opportunity opened at Ellison Lor State Farm I was ecstatic to apply for the position. It has been a memorable beginning. I have learned a lot since I started in May of 2022 and I still have so much to gain. I’m really excited to put my degree and customer experience to use.

I am the eldest of 6 and got married in 2010. My husband, Yia, is from Hickory, North Carolina which is how I found myself here on the other side of the country. Yia and I have 3 girls and 1 boy. Harmony is 11, Isadora is 7, Xanthus is 6, and my baby girl, Yuna, is 4. My husband and I work opposite shifts to provide for our family. Every other weekend and holidays are the only time we get to be together as a whole family. My family back in California and my in-laws here in NC are extremely supportive. We try to see them and spend as much time as possible with them.

My family and I are home bodies. Occasionally we go out as a family to enjoy a movie, but mostly the girls enjoy helping in the kitchen and the boys love to play video games. At home, I am usually doing chores around the house and cooking, but if I do ever get "me time," I’m watching movies or shopping.

I am still a newbie at Ellison Lor State Farm! Insurance is a new language to me, but my mentors and the team have been so supportive.
